Is a Process Server registered by the Supreme Court of Texas?

No! Process Servers are not “registered” by the Supreme Court of Texas.  Process Servers are certified by the Judicial Branch Certification Commission (JBCC), not the Supreme Court of Texas. Process Servers should not set themselves out as acting on behalf of, or under the authority of the Supreme Court. 

How do I become a certified Process Server in Texas?

Complete an approved JBCC 7-hour civil process service educational course. Upon completion of the course, the course director should supply you with a certificate of completion. This certificate must be submitted within 1 year of filing your Process Server Application.

Submit the Application for Certification.You must apply for certification via the JBCC licensing and certification system. To apply online, please Click Here.

Pay the certification fee. The current fee is $200 to cover a two-year certification period. It must be paid by Credit Card or Debit Card. This fee must accompany the Process Server Application for Certification and the Orientation Course Certificate.

Pass a criminal history background check with the Texas DPS and the FBI. The JBCC Staff will email the required form / code needed to schedule your fingerprinting appointment. This code will only be given once you have submitted your application package with the JBCC.

Can Process Servers leave contact notes at a delivery address?

Yes. Process Servers should include their first and last name along with their JBCC certification number in their contact information to eliminate confusion for the recipient when leaving notices at a door. Notes must NOT state that you are certified by the Supreme Court of Texas. Process Servers should also refrain from using threatening language or exaggerating their authority, such as declaring they have the same authority as a law enforcement officer and citing violations of laws.
